providing the public’s perspective
I was honoured to be appointed as a member of Council and during my term have served on a number of committees including the Finance and Audit Committee and Investigations Committee.
While as a public representative I did not come to Council with a medical background, I am appreciative of how the public perspective is both valued and sought from the medical members of Council and College staff, specifically noting our role to assist Council to provide the public’s perspective.
I have been impressed with the level of discussion by all members of Council on areas of public concern in an effort to address and provide practical solutions to issues affecting the practice of medicine and the administration of the College.
Self-regulation of any profession is a difficult task and as a public member I respect the work of the College in undertaking this responsibility and, as well, adapting to a constantly changing environment. Noting the many societal issues confronting us these past few years, I have been impressed with the level of discussion by all members of Council on areas of public concern in an effort to address and provide practical solutions to issues affecting the practise of medicine and the administration of the College.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the College successfully adapted to working in a virtual environment to ensure regulation of the medical profession. The dedication of College leadership and staff in continuing their work seamlessly and working with Council to pursue the College’s mandate during this difficult time is to be congratulated. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve and contribute as a public member.
